Jammu and Kashmir reorganised; Ladakh a union territory
Leh, Ladakh

Article 370 is made inoperative in August; on 31 October Jammu and Kashmir becomes two union territories, one of them Ladakh.
Presidential orders of 5 and 6 August 2019 applied the whole Constitution to the state and made Article 370 inoperative; the Reorganisation Act, signed on 9 August, took effect on 31 October. Ladakh became a union territory without a legislature. The Supreme Court upheld the changes in December 2023.
This is why the modern-boundary layer needs a 2019 slice. A smaller change followed in January 2020, when Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu merged into one union territory.
