Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand and Jharkhand

Ranchi, Jharkhand

Three states are created in November 2000: Chhattisgarh on the 1st, Uttaranchal on the 9th and Jharkhand on the 15th, on regional and tribal claims.

Three Acts of August 2000 made India's 26th, 27th and 28th states. Chhattisgarh was formed from Madhya Pradesh on 1 November, Uttaranchal from Uttar Pradesh on 9 November and Jharkhand from Bihar on 15 November, with Ranchi as capital. Uttaranchal took the name Uttarakhand in January 2007.

These states broke from the 1956 rule. All three were carved from Hindi-majority states, and their claims rested on region, tribe and neglect instead of language. In Jharkhand the demand for an Adivasi homeland in Chota Nagpur was decades old, and the state's birthday was set to match Birsa Munda's. In the Uttarakhand hills the movement of the 1990s was marked by the police firing at Rampur Tiraha on 2 October 1994.

The pin marks Ranchi for all three. The Telangana event of 2014 shows the same regional logic applied again.
